can't read DVD

i was trying to convert a DVD that i converted before for the purpose of diagnosing another problem. i was thinking that if this other problem happens again, the DVDs are ok and the problem is somewhere in my handbrake or its configuration


Description of problem or question:
when i insert a DVD and click "open source", handbrake scans the DVD for a while and then comes back with "no title found"

Handbrake does not natively read DVDs. You can add libraries to it to give it that function, but that hasn't been part of handbrake for over a dozen years, for legal reasons.

Using a DVD tool like MakeMKV handles that.

i installed a bunch of libraries, and it worked. but now, a couple of hours later, i'm back to the same problem. don't ask me why, i don't have a clue. it worked, and now it doesn't. WHY? it's driving me nuts

I suddenly was having troubles reading DVD's in Handbrake. I know the DVD's are good, as they play thru other windows Media Players, etc. I thought that it might have been since the version I was using was a couple years old, so I got the latest, and copied the LIBDVDCSS.DLL. Handbrake starts reading the titles, I see the count go up, but then it says there is no data.
