RF vs CQ when switching from H.265 to H.265 (AMD VCE)

Post by RasterEyes »

Are the values on the CQ slider equivalent (or at least roughly so) to the RF values I'm used to using without GPU acceleration? I'm using the Constant Quality mode in either case.

No, the quality scale isn't consistent across different settings much less different encoders.

Indeed, as Mark pointed out, you need to test and determine which quality level is acceptable to you for each encoder, there's no direct/easy mapping that would work for everyone.

I was surprised to see how little compression was being done at the same setting value, and the quality drops quite a bit if I try for smaller output file size. It looks like using GPU acceleration isn't as great an idea as I'd hoped.
