H265 QSV Transcode

Post by spetrillo »

Hello all,

I am transcoding from H264 to H265, using the QSV option in Handbrake. I see my Intel iGPU is being used but the CPU is also being used. I was under the impression that using the QSV option will only use the iGPU. Is this not true? While the iGPU is busy about 80% the CPU is fluctuating between 65-80% also.

Thanks,
Steve

Aha...thank you for that. I also am seeing that even if the CPU is 65-80% used its not maxing the CPU. My 8th gen NUC starts at 2.7GHZ and can burst to 4.5GHZ. The CPU usage is around 1.9GHZ.

Its very interesting that the iGPU maxes out the 3D, while the actual video decode is minimal.

A lot of possibilities; the encoding log will tell us which ones it is.
