How to render videos at 16:9 widescreen?

Post by protocol17 »

I have a vintage camcorder that records in 16:9 widescreen but on resolution info it says that it's 720:576. no idea why this happens and 576 actually makes the footage look stretched so i want to render all of my recordings to an ideally 480p format but no matter what setting i mess around with i can never get it to be 16:9.

program also seems to be changing the aspect ratio on different videos although they were all shot with same settings.

any info on how to render them with the aspect ratio i want would be appreciated

Log files are important on this sort of issue. We do not know what handbrake saw in your file, so suggestions on how to fix it would likely be meaningless.

Set it to be 16:9.

Assuming you are using 1.4.0 or newer, in the Dimensions tab if you set

- Resolution & Scaling: Anamorphic: Automatic
- Resolution & Scaling: Optimal Size: True (check mark)
- Final Dimensions: Automatic: True (check mark)

it should not interfere with the source file's display/storage aspect ratios. If that doesn't help, then set

- Resolution & Scaling: Anamorphic: Custom
- Resolution & Scaling: Pixel Aspect: 16 : 9

Which will force a 16:9 aspect ratio.
