Cant get subtitles to show even though burned in selected

Post by smdwisconsin »

Description of problem or question:

I am trying to rip a German DVD with English subtitles. I am presented with "foreign audio search" that indicated burned in, and a choice of subtitles in French, and English. I select English and select BURN IN, but when I produce the MKV file, and play it, even though I enable the subtitle track, it will not display. What am I doing wrong?

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):

1.4.2

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):

MacOS High Sierra

HandBrake Activity Log ***required*** (see How-to get an activity log)

Code: Select all

Is the video being cropped? I don't understand how subs work, exactly, but sometimes they show up in black bars below the video. If that gets cropped off then the subs won't show up.

Without the log, we cannot see what handbrake had to work with. Subtitles are often problematic.

We all know the problem is choosing FAS for the English subtitle track of a German DVD. No chance it hits the threshold; FAS should not be used here.
