Setting the Title.

Post by evansmb » Sat Mar 09, 2019 11:49 pm

Description of problem or question:
I'm a novice at ripping a digital videos. I recently decide to rip the shows I watch the most and stream them from my local cloud device. The quality seems pretty good, but the problem I have is the title that shows on my Roku and my DNLA enabled bluray player shows something different than the file name. For example I decide to rip a series (Mrs. Brown's Boys). When I ripped the series I ripped it to a file like mmb_s1_d1_e1.mp4, but when I go to stream the file the title on the DNLA devices show up as "Mrs. Brown's Boys". Obviously this will cause an issue in knowing which show you're about to stream since all files will show up the same. I've tried to find where this can be changed but I haven't had any luck. Would any one know where this option can be changed?

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):

1.2.2

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):

Windows 10

Re: Setting the Title.

Many DLNA servers get the display name from the metadata field "Title" in the file. Handbrake does not currently offer a way to set that name directly; it's copied from the source file. It is likely that whatever you're recording the source with is setting "Title" for you, without regard to the other information about season/episode.

You can, however, edit the metadata with other tools, prior to encoding with handbrake. I've had some success with using VLC for this, but better tools exist, that work more consistently than VLC.

This is an annoying issue for me as well, it would be nice if the (especially) preferences had the ability to change metadata title to file name instead of just renaming the output file.
What was your solution, by the way?
