Set width and maintain aspect ratio for height

Post by sircameron » Mon Jan 21, 2019 6:43 pm

Description of problem or question:
when encoding videos using CLI, I'm setting the storage width to 1280.
I would like the height to be calculated using the aspect ratio of the source. But it always uses the height set in the preset file.

How can I ensure the height is set correctly to maintain the aspect ratio?

this is specific to the preset files and CLI.

Re: Set width and maintain aspect ratio for height

Can you also post your command line? If I had to guess, you are probably using --non-anamorphic option, but not using --keep-display-aspect. With your particular source, you don't need either of these since it is already non-anamorphic. But if you use the non-anamorphic option, you generally also want to use keep-display-aspect.

Unless you have a broken player that doesn't support anamorphic pixels, I would suggest never using these options.

Also upgrade to 1.2.0, 1.1.2 isn't supported.

Your log doesn't show what you describe, so I'm a bit confused. The preset has height set to 720. Your log shows height is not 720 but 536 which seems to be the appropriate value.

Hi, thanks. while writing this post I was also testing different settings. It seems that the settings I posted actually worked.
So for now, I think this is solved.
I set anamorphic to loose, which seems to have solved the issue.

is this correct?

If you want anamorphic output when your input is anamorphic, with specific modulus requirements due to playback environment constraints, then yes, loose would be correct for you.
