Some guy is selling "handbreake" on the Apple App Store

This guy appears to be trying to cash in on your good name. Not right.

Looks like a similar name, but it doesn't appear to be using our code. I suspect it may be using ffmpeg though, like many of the other apps that pull this same crap.

Somebody tells you "the best way to encode video on a mac is Handbrake", you go to the app store, search for "Handbrake", and this is what you find. Even if he is not appropriating your code, he's trying to cash in on Handbrake's reputation and goodwill. If it's garbage, people who bought it will slag Handbrake, not knowing any better.

FWIW, Apple's App Store review guidelines include:

8.5 Apps may not use protected third party material such as trademarks, copyrights, patents or violate 3rd party terms of use.
...
22.2 Apps that contain false, fraudulent or misleading representations or use names or icons similar to other Apps will be rejected

O, I wasn't arguing against that

It's always a game of whack a mole with these developers Sadly this time someone decided to try use a mis-leading name as well.

I'll need to figure out if there is a way of reporting this to Apple.

WEll, after some digging, I eventually found a contact form and reported it to them. We'll see if they do anything.

I used another forum on the Developer pages. However the offical channel is a non-starter. We are not a company and I'm not going to share my personal contact info with some sketchy company.

We'll see what they say.
