Unknown error

I tried to recode to a smaller file a video that was ripped using MakeMkv from a Blu-Ray because the original is about 20 GB.Whe I tried to open the file I got this message that I don't understand.

'An Unknown Error has occured.

I should point out that the file will play in VLC player although it stutters a bit. I'm running Window 7 Pro i7 920
