BD encode taking far too long

Post by rjw_24 »

Hi everyone. First post so if I'm missing something please let me know. I've been using DVDFab to rip my blurays to m2ts and I don't mind the size of the files, but I get weird color blocks and frame tearing when watching straight from the rip. Encoding seems to get rid of this issue of the original file. I'm using the high profile default setting for play back on my HTPC and RF23. The only additional setting I am using is no fast-p skip. My encodes have an estimated time of like 64 hours with an average of like 3-5 fps. I need help getting some faster encodes than this. Thanks for any help.

You've only got a dual core cpu. That sort of encode speed is perfectly normal for 1080 content.

We'd need to see the encode log to make any suggestions on what settings which could help speed things up, but ultimately, your not going to be maintaining quality with encodes running much faster than that.

That's a scan log, not an encode log.

You can make encodes faster by using faster settings. We have no idea what settings you're using since you didn't post an encode log.

3 to 5 fps on a 110 minute 24fps movie is roughly equal to 9 to 14 hrs encode time not 64 hours. You should upgrade to the nightly build, it's more accurate in estimating encoding time remaining.

The one thing you can do to reduce encode time drastically is reduce the resolution to 720p. Try a test encode (eg one chapter or the point to point encoding available with the nightly) you may find it surprisingly easy to live with at living room viewing distances.

Thanks for all the tips. Changing to 720p made a huge difference.
