Rotate Video

Post by theonewho »

I have a cheap mp4 player can play video in the amv format. Before I convert the video to amv I like to rotate it 90 degrees because the screen is taller than it is wide. Right now I encode the video to an xvid file, then use avidemux to rotate the video. It would be handy to have the rotation as an option in HandBrake, but I'm aware I'm probably in the minority here

That would be a great addition. I also need that on some videos. Please consider it.

This can be done in QuickTime Pro with a couple of clicks.

I'm sorry, but this is a forum about Handbrake not Quick Time Pro, and I need that feature in Handbrake. I know tons of applications that can rotate a video, but Handbrake does a good job on converting to mkv. Better than most of other GUIs.

HandBrake is not a video editor. Not a feature that's likely to ever appear.

Users are more than welcome to post alternate solutions to problems.

ok. I never said it is, but a simple 90º rotation shouldn't even be considered video editing, just correcting camera rotation before converting to another format. It's a feature like resizing or cropping.

Most video converters don't do edit, but offer rotation correction before coding. I humbly asked this feature because it could help me when converting movies from my toddler to x264.

Thank you.

I would also like this feature. The reason I want it is that I like to encode files I get from my iPhone which if filmed in Profile has an arbitrary rotation. When I encode it HB seems to disregard this and show the file in what appears to be a rotated orientation even though, I assume, doesn't look like it to HB. I don't have Quicktime Pro and have no intent to ever purchase and use it. Just a shame that QTX doesn't support that along with it's limited trim function.

+1 for the request... PS might help for it to be able to identify the arbitrary rotation and let the user know.

Cheers,.

This is being worked on. No ETA, however.

If you don't have QuickTime Pro, you can use MPEG Streamclip to rotate the video.

NO rotation... bummer!

As mobile devices are becoming more and more relevant the need to rotate video will be more important. Im glad to know I was not the only one that thought "I have a video that needs to be recompiled where is Handbrake." :)
