Problem with Handbrake 64 bit & VLC 64bit

Post by michelcl »

Hi,

I downloaded the Handbrake 0.9.4 for 64bit intel.
After launch of Handbrake I was requested to get VLC in 64 bit.

The latest version of VLC is 1.0.3 and I can not find it in 64 bit (only 32bit)

Does anyone have the link to VLC 64bit for mac ?

Thx.

There is not a 64bit build currently. 1.0.2 has a 64bit build but the VLC team did not publish a 64bit build of 1.0.3 due to bugs.

The VLC developers are having issues with stable 64 bit builds at the moment, so there was no 64 bit build of the 1.0.3 release.

The 1.0.2 release is available from their FTP site.

I forgot to include the activity log in my previous post (as a side note, If I click "Attempt to Scan Anyway" I am taken to a vlc web page and Handbrake doesn't start scanning anything). Here's the log:

You must use the version of VLC found here. No other version will work.

If you have this build of VLC installed in your Applications folder. Remember this build no other will version will work then post all the relevant details about your VLC build.

Note: The linked build is the only 64bit version of VLC available as of this post. More 64bit builds are expected at some point in the future, but it could be months before those are available.

Thanks, LinBrake.

I had more information into the problem I'm having, but when I clicked submit I was told the post had to be approved by a moderator or something before it would be visible to everybody, but so far that hasn't happened. I figured the same would happen when I posted my specs, but somehow that post went straight up. So that is why in my post you replied to there is an indication of a "previous post" that doesn't appear. Anyway, I'm including below my first post that came before the specs post.

I'm having a similar problem with the Handbrake 64 bit and vlc 64 bit. When I try to open a source in Handbrake I get the error "This version of HandBrake is 64 bit, VLC found but not 64 bit!"

I'm running Handbrake 0.9.4 and vlc 1.0.2 (the version that should be 64 bit enabled). I downloaded the Mac OS X 10.5 / 10.6 - GUI version of handbrake. I first tried downloading the 1.0.3 vlc, but when I read that the 1.0.2 was 64 bit I downloaded that instead, but to no avail. I haven't used Hanbrake on this particular computer before, but before I tried downgrading to 0.9.3, I was hoping to find out if there is a way to make this work.

I've looked around on other forums, but I cant find any information. Thanks for any help you have to offer.

You may want to post a message next to the 64 bit disclaimer. It would help a lot of people out with very little effort, and prevent a lot of griping on the forums.

I'm having the same problem: can't get HandBrake "Version 0.9.4 x86_64 (2009112300)" to work with VLC "Version 1.0.2 Goldeneye (Intel 64bit)" on a "2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo" iMac running OS 10.5.8.

Should I forget about the 64-bit bit and try to run 32-bit versions of both programs?

I presume that you've installed VLC to /Applications, you haven't renamed it and you've opened it at least once?

Good steer! I did have VLC - not renamed and previously opened (currently open, too) - in /Applications but in its own "VLC" folder there (along with the VLC's "Goodies" folder and "Read Me.rtf"): i.e., /Applications/VLC/VLC. Bringing the application out of the folder to the top level of /Applications doesn't generate the error message "This version of HandBrake is 64 bit, VLC found but not 64 bit!", and I've successfully made mp4 and mkv copies.

(Is it generally a good idea to have programs at the top level of the /Applications folder? So far I haven't had problems keeping a program's ancillary stuff along with the program itself in its own folder within /Applications.)

Well then VLC was not in /Applications, but in /Applications/VLC (which is not the same folder).

It's neither a good nor a bad idea. But keeping VLC there is required if you want to use HandBrake to encode straight from the disc.

I get "This version of HandBrake is 64 bit, VLC found but not 64 bit!" aswell... I've downloaded 1.0.2 in the 64 bit & the 1.0.3 (not sure how many bits that one is) but its still popping up

I've got a Mac OS X version 10.5.8 what do I do please? All I want to do is copy a dvd and no software seems to be working :-(

Make sure VLC.app is installed into /Applications/ and is a 64bit version like the one linked to above. There is no 64bit version of 1.0.3 so it will not work.

my mac specs are :

iMac 24"
10.5.8
3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

MacBook Pro
10.6.2
2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
GB 1067 MHz DDR3

I have installed Handbrake Version 0.9.4 x86_64 (200911230) and VLC Version 1.0.2 Goldeneye (Intel 64bit) on both computers,

I insert the DVD that I want to rip.

I have one option and that is to select Source, then the VIDEO_TS file from the DVD.

This is where the program freezes on both computers and I get the spinning wheel of death...followed by the application not responding.

I cannot supply an activity log as I have to continually force quit handbrake as it stalls almost immediately on both machines as it starts its scan.

When I go into the VIDEO_TS file, I have .VOB files which I would assume are VLC linked?

If anyone could shed some light into what on earth is happening, it would be greatly appreciated as I have to cut down and edit a DVD that has been given to me by a client.

I am of course very new to this...

Thanks in advance...

They're automatically saved to a well documented location.
