AC3 5.0 ch

Post by Vietwoojagig »

Having a movie with AC3 5.0 ch as the only audio source, why is it not possible to select 6.0 discrete as mixdown.
The maximum which I can select is Dolby Pro Logic II

How exactly would you like to mix 5 channels "down" into 6? What would you like HandBrake to stuff into the sixth empty/phantom channel, given that it would require making a surround matrix that did not previously exist?

I would handle the AC3 5.0 as an 5.1 with a silent low-frequency effects channel (LFE).

... all I can say is "wow". If anything belongs in "Ponies" or "Unicorns" ... this would be it.

Maybe a 'Liger' forum?

I'd post a pic if the forum would let me...

Resurrecting a dead thread. FWIW, upmixing 5.0 to 5.1 is now possible in the nightly builds :P

Being on the subject ... what about AC3 3.0ch?

I haven't found a way to go from 3.0ch 384 to 3.0ch 256 Kbps with Handbrake.

You can upmix to 5.1, as indicated in your log. You can't encode to 3.0, though.
