ignoring title (no audio track)

After scanning a particular DVD, only some of the titles are showing up. If what was said in this thread:

is accurate, HandBrake does not support titles without audio. Below you can find my DVD data and my activity log, although I doubt they are of any significance in this matter, if HandBrake truly does not support titles without audio.

Perhaps it is not ok to ask this question here, in which case please delete this post, but what other programs can convert VOB files to AVI or mp4? During my struggle with this issue I've found plenty of software that can copy the DVD or rip it to ISO or VOB files, but that does not help me (I'm a budding video artist attempting to work with found video). However, I have found no other free software that can convert VOB to AVI or mp4. Does anyone have any suggestions?

HandBrake doesn't support titles with no audio tracks.

- HandBrake, in my opinion, really should support tracks without audio. The reason it does not was an attempt very long ago (years) to prevent support issues because users would select things like studio montages (the very short, 10-15 second leaders without audio) as titles to encode without realizing it. The "resolution" to this was to prevent HandBrake from encoding titles that are "too short" and titles without audio. I feel rather strongly that both of these restrictions were needless and prevent users who actually intend to encode content like this from doing so, but that would be a pony.

- If your intent is to use content from a DVD in your own work (copyright issues aside), you really don't want to use MP4 as an intermediate format because of its very lossy nature (quality will be affected). You are better off using MPEG StreamClip or something similar to rip to DV as an intermediate format and then do your final render from whatever editing software you are using in H.264 or whatever codec and container your audience needs.

My chapter markers disappear after tagging with MetaX (using snapshot 5).

Is this the bug you are referring to? Another post mentioned there was a "chapter bug" (unspecified), but it was considered a MetaX problem and not a handbrake bug, so I assume this a known issue?

Any idea if the folks at MetaX are working on this?

Tracks without audio should work as of r1993. It hasn't had a lot of testing because I only have three test cases but those worked without problems.

Tracks less than 10 seconds are still ignored since 10 seconds is the minimum legal track length according to the DVD spec. We could take that restriction out but I suspect it will let through even more of the DRM garbage that's on current DVDs & cause us trouble in the long run.

Thank you so much for finally fixing this bug! Although we can't really afford it, I was considering buying CloneDVD Mobile because it could encode our Sign Language DVDs. Unfortunately, building from the Subversion repository seems to be beyond my skills. When can we expect a release or a Windows build with this fix? I tried looking at the development timeline but I guess I don't have access

On another note, would it be possible to make the 10-second limit at least configurable? Many of the better Sign Language DVDs will have chapters and titles that are just short snippets, or will index shorter sections of the main title (pictures, quotes, etc.) as separate titles for quick navigation.
