I'm having the opposite problem - no matter what I set the encoder to and with the destination set to *.avi, the resulting file is a video clip (Windows Media Player). Must be something I'm missing...

@Bressler - Windows media player will be your default player for avi files.
Right click the file, Then click open with to choose another application.

@kjer- What video & audio codecs did you use?

thanks SR55!

You are right, it is really an AVI file. However, if I try to drag and drop it on to iTunes (or ADD FILE or IMPORT), it will not do it. Are there some other file attributes that have to be changed?

hmm.. if I try to open the file with quicktime, I just get a blank screen. (opening it with WMP works fine)

Itunes needs an mp4 file. The save file dialog has an option for .mp4 as the extension in the dropdown below the file name box.

Scott, thanks again. I have no idea why I was thinking that I needed AVI.

Ok, the only reason for it not to be a mp4 file is you have saved it as an avi.

Under the Destination Section
The browse button,
Change the save as type dropdown to mp4.

Your file must have the avi extension currently so you'll need to re-encode.
