iPod High-Rez setting encodes are not clean !

Post by MacFly »

i would have users advice about their encodes

i tried this preset for over a week now
TV shows (Prison Break, Deadwood, CSI) , Mucis videos (80's, Enya, Era)
about all the resulting files are not clean
there's always something bad with pixels
blurring effects
static pixels effects (not refreshing correctly)

1 out of 10 encode is what i woudld call 'clean' (no artefact in video)

tried out 1 pass against 2 pass
anamorphic enoding
normal encoding

i can't be alone having those results

here's my last log with 3 Era music videos encoding finished 15 minutes ago all 3 have those effects

I'm not sure there is any way to get rid of those issues and still maintain iPod compatibility. It has gotten significantly better over the last few releases. I have well over 5000 HB rips and it's something I can live with, even when watching from my iPod on a large screen TV. If you want DVD quality, watch the DVD, not your iPod.

i asked only to know if some other people had those kind of things
i make also better rips to keep on the drives and watch on TV

what i would know is why ? and what's wrong ? i like to understand :-)
i'm sure it's not really something that HB developpers can avoid
perhaps the x264 encoder
perhaps something else

when starting this topic i knew i've read something about it but could not remember where
i found the topic about the problem:
