That's really surprising to me... I don't know why they would want to have to work with both codebases (10.4 vs. 10.5). Oh well, I'm sure they have their reasons!

Anyone been able to test if ATV2 supports PASP?

I think the most important question for us is actually a fairly obvious one:

Will the ATV 2 properly read our already-encoded anamorphic files.

As you remember HB uses both Apple and standard anamorphic flags, which screws it up bigtime on the newest versions of QuickTime, which I'm sure Apple kindly included in the new ATV release.

Testing is a must, but I don't want to "brick" my ATV (well really any of my files) until I know for sho about how it handles anamorphic video

I'm also interested if the multiple soundtrack features works and how so (interface wise). If that works good I'd probably buy one.

Yes on the properly encoded anamorphic files from HB. I just played a few movies encoded in Apple TV presets and they all played fine. :D

Can someone point me to the "recipe" to encode DVDs that I own into files that the ATV can play back, with AC3 being sent through my receiver?

I have been holding back on backing all of mine up, until the take 2 release came out.

Thank you in advance.

Can't we give them at least a couple hours?

Give them some time, friend! I'm sure it will take a little bit to figure out exactly what Apple is doing and then how to get HB to do the same. We are all [not so] patiently waiting for the magic recipe!

Did the specs just changed? I just visited the Apple site on ATV and it now says:

Compatible with enhanced-definition or high-definition widescreen TVs capable of 1080p/1080i 60/50Hz, 720p 60/50Hz, 576p 50Hz (PAL format), or 480p 60Hz

Nope. Google cached page from Feb 4 says the same. Google "AppleTV specs" and click on the "cached" link.

ATV now outputs 1080p video, but can't process it or play it back. rentals are 720 (if you cough up for the hd)

Performance enhanced?

I have been playing a few old encodes (e.g. The Incredibles) that had stuttering problems and after updating my AppleTV it appears they are gone. I have not watched these videos in a while, so maybe I forgot exactly where the stuttering was...

Can anyone else confirm with some known stutterers you might have in your library?

I've also heard that the intermittent pausing with high resolution/high bitrate sources bug is gone... sounds to me like they have increased the AppleTV's H.264 specs (vbv-maxrate, etc).

Just wanted to report that I too had no problems with Anamorphic movies.

Okay, looks like ATV2 is simply awesome. It's time to get lot of sleep, because when the superb HB team release DD 5.1 support, I have a feeling I'll be up late for several weeks re-encoding everything from scratch!! :P

Why not? People have managed to hack together 5.1 tests that have worked pretty quickly, is there reason to believe 5.1 won't happen with HB?

Could you please elaborate? Are you saying it won't happen soon or it won't happen at all?
