all it says when i put a dvd in "Reading DVD status: The CLI is about to read to DVD... this process can take up to 1 mintute. processing ... please wait! "

do i need a DVD ripper?

the windows gui doesn't read dvds... my guess is that you are using an original dvd (encrypted source) which handbrake windows won't decrypt. you need some sort of program... some sort of dvd decrypter...

google for "dvd decrypter" or "dvd43". The former will rip to your hard drive, the latter will access the DVD as if it were unprotected.
