A problem with source file

I've been using Handbrake for some time, but on a new PC, which possibly has a newer version (1.7.3), the scanning operation is no longer initiated when the source file name is entered (typically being a BDMV) file. Clicking OPEN merely carries on until the file listing comes to 'streams' Scanning is initiated when a particular file is selected. I realise that possibly this merely replaces selecting the file at a later stage. This post is merely to obtain clarity in the change of procedure. It took me quite a while to realise that the application was not broken. {b}
