Hello. I like to use Nvidia Shadowplay to record clips from videogames I play.
It's a little bit weird when it comes to HDR because it doesn't seem to always accurately know if a game I'm playing is in HDR mode or not. So sometimes, the resultant clip's color profile in its header doesn't match the color profile of the raw footage. As a result, when I play the video, the color is all dark and oversaturated etc.
I found a way to easily fix this without encoding, by muxing and altering a simple parameter. Via MKVToolNix, I simply add '1' in the "Transfer characteristics" box under "Color information". I believe this basically alters the color profile in the file header to rec 709 which is the original footage's color profile.
This process works as when I now play the video, it now presents in its correct color profile.
However, I wanted to re-encode a clip for the purpose of decreasing its filesize, I'm unable to even open it in Adobe Media Encoder. So I try Handbrake, and I am able to open it. But when start the job, it returns with an error message. I have no idea why this is happening.
