"Open Source" Window/Dialog Does Not Display

Post by Quincunx55555 »

Description of problem or question:
When I launch the application, I am presented with the main window (which is not what the user docs describe). When I attempt to open the "Open Source" window, either with the toolbar button, or the menu item, the dialog box/window does not display. The toolbar button does flash, indicating the software received the command, but nothing happens.

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):
For me, make any attempt at all to select a file from the OS.

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):
1.7.3 (x86_64)

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):
MX Linux

Flatpak uses xdg-desktop-portal in order to present a file manager native to your desktop. Perhaps you are missing a package required for this. I don't know what is required for xfce off-hand but there are several options. Look for packages called xdg-desktop-portal-*

Installing xdg-desktop-portal did not resolve the issue.

That particular package is just the "frontend" portion. You would also require a "backend", e.g. xdg-desktop-portal-gnome. There are also user systemd services associated with both frontend and backend that would need to be enabled. I.e. you might need to log out and back in or even manually enable them. On fedora, both xdg-desktop-portal-gnome and xdg-desktop-portal-gtk are installed and enabled by default.
