4k disc degrading

4k disc degrading

Hi, I have a quick question does ripping degrade 4K discs in anyway.

Ripping does not, transcoding (which Handbrake does, because it's a transcoder, not a dedicated ripper) does.

I disagree, transcoding has no effect on the physical disk.

To put the conversation in another context; any time you handle a physical disc there is a possibility of damaging it. So to minimize damage due to handling, creating a copy and storing the original disc some place cool, dark, and safe is a good way to preserve it.
