I am converting .3gp videos shot on a Nokia phone from 2010. The videos convert fine but the audio does not convert. I have tried different audio settings with the same results - the converted files have just a distorted audio sound. More info on this format below:
I can import this into Mac's editing software iMovie and reexport from there with no issues except a far bigger file size. Would really like to use handbrake but need to know if this audio format is properly supported. Thanks
Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):
HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):
1.6.1 (2023012200)
Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):
I would think, encoding such videos only can make it worse.
I assume you cannot play the 3gp files natively? If it would be my video, I probably would have just re-encapsulated it in a MKV container, as the video and audio format should be playable on a computer.
Dear All,
Thanks for your response. Yes, .3gp files can be played natively but I am sending these clips to other people via mobile and it does not play on some devices. I also want to convert these for future proofing. I can use an NLE to convert (iMovie, etc) but it does take more time and steps.
Looks like it's fixed in git master; I think I may know which FFmpeg patch to backport, so it may make its way to 1.6.2 as well (otherwise, development snapshots will have the fix anyway).
