older SVCD discs not readable

Post by powamike »

Is it common to encounter issues while ripping older SVCDs? Specifically, some users report that their ripping software is unable to find any data on the disc.

Knowing what errors were encountered would be helpful.

That being said, I'm pretty sure HandBrake does not support VCD/SVCD folder structures anyway.

Isn't a VCD/SVCD just an MPEG/MPEG2-Stream? Opening the DAT file directly might work eventually.

Could you try opening one of the .MPG files and post your handbrake log here.

Super Video CDs are structured more in the nature of a CD and not a DVD, hence Handbrake will not recognize the disc.

They were a Japanese attempt at competing with early DVDs without the license fee structure.

If you pull out and copy the main file and rename it to a suffix of ".mpeg" or "mpg" and try using Handbrake aimed at that file.
