Handbrake only encoding 1 of 5 chapters

Post by mtalio »

Description of problem or question:
I haven't used Handbrake in years. I have a DVD I made years ago with 5 chapters. Now, I want to rip it back to my hard drive for cloud storage. It only encodes 1 of the chapters. Why won't it encode all 5 and how do I do that? Can't find the answer. The entire DVD's content is under 20 minutes.

Thanks,

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):
Version 1.5.1 (2022011000)

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):
Mac OS 12.3 (Monterey)

The activity log says it has 48 chapters. Maybe you are confusing them with titles?

I'll look again...the Chapters, however, all say they are 4 seconds each. That would make it a 3 minute 12 second Title comprised of 48 4-second chapters. There are 5 sections/chapters that I created for the DVD. I just never had a problem in the past where Handbrake wouldn't/couldn't read the disk I was trying to rip. I used to need to select the longest Title/Chapter to rip but it isn't working for me this time. I know I'm not explaining well. It's been awhile. Thanks,

Are you opening a DVD directly?

If so try ripping with makemkv first.

I'm trying to rip the DVD I created years ago on my Mac.

I'll download makemkv and try ripping with that.

I just don't understand why there isn't a way to tell Handbrake to rip each of the Chapter (or the entire disk)?

Thanks again,

I should be more clear...I want to be able to tell Handbrake to rip the 5 Titles that comprise the DVD. Within those 5 titles, there are 52 chapter (1 chapter for each of Title 1, 2, 3, and 4 and 48 chapters for Title 5). It's weird as I've never experienced this problem before.

It turns out that Makemkv is Windows only. I use a Mac.

I just typed at someone who was questioning whether the MakeMKV license was limited by architecture, or worked on all version for Intel, AMD, or even the ARM versions... MakeMKV is available on Windows, MacOS, and multiple Linux versions.
