What is Encoder Setting and Optimize Video

Post by MountainMike »

Description of problem or question:
There's a slider bar that controls the speed under "optimise video" and there is a pull down menu that reads "encoder setting". What if any bearing does this have on video quaility.

On another note, I am only using Handbrake in the first place because when I record streaming TV I get an error on Pinnacle Studio 11.0 that reads, "error opening video file" and I don't know why.

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):
1.1.2 (64 bit)

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):
Windows 10

HandBrake Activity Log ***required*** (see How-to get an activity log)

Code: Select all

Please replace this text with the contents of your log file between the two code tags - OR - provide a pastebin URL in place of these 3 lines.
If you are unable to do so, please state why so we can help you.

Version 1.1.2? Your hardware should support 1.5.x. 1.1.x is really only "supported" for hardware that cannot operate in 64-bit mode, which you're operating in.

Your question is, essentially, "what does the quality I choose have to do with the quality I get?"

Video can be encoded a lot of ways. Generally speaking, if you want better quality video, you move the settings higher. If you're editing the video after you convert it, you'll want a higher quality (lower RF values) to maximize the quality.
