What quality setting?

Description of problem or question:

What quality setting do you recommend for UHD 50p 8-bit footage in ProRes 422HQ to be converted to H.265?


Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):




HandBrake version 1.5.1




Operating system and version Windows 10

It really depends on why you are converting it?

Speed. Quality. Size. Pick 2.

25 is a reasonable starting point for UHD.

Speed I don't care. High quality. Size isn't too important but obviously not too large like uncompressed.

And why are you compressing them? And what do you plan to watch them on?

I've got them stored in ProRes, and I suppose with memory being so capacious these days I can keep them forever in ProRes, but for sending to people etc they need to be compressed? Not every player will play ProRes?

Try a 2160p Apple preset.
