x265 Failing 2160p & 4.1 Encoder Level?

Post by HD MOVIE SOURCE »

Hi,

I have an issue when encoding with H.265. I want to use a lower Encoder Level. At 1080p and using x265 with Encoder Level 4.1 it doesn't give me errors. With the same settings, but just putting the resolution to 2160p the encode failed. Are the Errors just saying that this encode / resolution / combination is possible at encoder level 4.1?

Is encoder level universal? So it means the same for x264 as it does for x265?

Thanks,
Carl.

Level 4.1 doesn't allow for 4K frame sizes, so that's an error from x265... need 5.0 for 4K30 and 5.1 for 4K60.

x264 was a bit more permissive, it would allow you to mis-flag the video to a lower level than it actually was. Some players would reject higher level video even if they could actually play it fine, so this was somewhat useful.
