GOP length control with Nvidia encoding

Post by Herrsmitz »

Anyone one know how to control the length of a GOP when using Nvidia NVEnc please?

Browsing the Nvidia API documentation it seems to be possible, but reading the Handbrake Nvidia documentation, there is very little control offered.

The problem I'm trying to solve is that leaving the encoder to its own devices, it can generate very long GOPs. This is a problem sometimes because during rewind/fast-forward, one often has to wait several second before the image stabilizes i.e. finds the next I frame, which can be up to 10 seconds away.

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable): N/A

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0): 1.4.2 (2021100300)

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update): Win 11.
