Windows Update KB4586876 Causing Handbrake Crashes

Heads up -- If anyone has been having issues with Handbrake 1.3.3 suddenly crashing without completing the queue, try uninstalling Windows 10 Update KB4586876. For whatever reason, this doesn't seem to be playing nice with Handbrake. I suddenly found myself experiencing severe stability issues with Handbrake, that would constantly crash at random while reencoding a BD rip. There were zero changes to my system, other than a few Windows 10 updates. Sure enough, KB4586876 was the culprit. Did two movies without issue after uninstalling it.

This update for Windows 10 Version 2004 includes cumulative reliability improvements in .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8. We recommend that you apply this update as part of your regular maintenance routines.
Are you implying that Microsoft would LIE about this being a FIX? Blasphemer!

Could be worse - some of their "improvements" will allow a program to write a file, but not change or delete it, depending on where it was written.

I was running the latest version for around 20 files with no issues, after rebooting my PC I cannot get a file to finish without crashing.

I am running windows 10, Handbrake 1.3.3, I will uninstall the KB4586876 update and see what happens.

After removing the above KB I can now encode without crashes. I suggest anyone else having similar issue try removing the above KB

Sometimes the update has download errors and doesn't install correctly. No issues here.

This is why logs are useful, as it may only be certain settings/files that are affected.

Sorry I do not have the logs, I recently joined this forum because my HB just started crashing. No installation of any other software, just rebooted my PC as it doesn't get rebooted often. After the reboot all my encodes kept crashing-randomly. After removing the KB it seems to be OK. I have done 5 so far without any issue. If I get failures again I will look at saving the logs etc.

Your logs should be saved unless you deleted them.

@rollin_eng your confusing posts / people here. He has *no* issues. Since he has said patch, without problem, he's suggesting that it might be a patch installation failure issue rather than a patch content problem.

I’m not confusing anything.

Saying “I have no issues” is useless without logs. We have no idea what settings or version is being used, so at best it’s just a cool story but at worst it could be misleading.

It’s fine having no issues but if you want your word taken seriously by me you need to post a log.
