Best settings to convert DV AVI to MP4

Post by VProject »

Description of problem or question:
What are the best settings to convert DV AVI (from MINI DV tapes) to .mp4 to get the best quality?
I'd like to convert to a more future proof format.

Is this a generic request? I'm not asking for support because I experienced a bug but because I'm interested in the best settings.
Happy to go through the procedure but just assume I didn't even do anything in the software other than what the best settings would be for what I'm trying to accomplish.

The scan log will tell us about your source, thus what to do with it.

The most "future-proof format" is raw, uncompressed video, and a supply of hardware that can read it that will get you through "the future". And a lot of us will contend that "MP4" isn't one of those formats, because it already displays its limitations at every turn.

Is your DV-AVI
NTSC 4:3
NTSC 16:9
PAL 4:3
PAL 16:9
?
How on earth could anyone guess at your "best settings" without knowing that essential information?

Is that a good enough reason to post your logs?
