...or at least in a rather indirect (read: he has no idea what HandBrake is, but his thoughts on closed versus open source clearly apply here) manner:

This is a good read, too (even the comments): http://www.cod3r.com/2007/06/open-source-attitudes/

Ironically, this guy is one of the Adium developers - and I believe that a representative from that group was the individual who lambasted us some time ago for our 'elitist attitudes'. Too funny.

I wholly agree with - and share his experience with - the author's observations on OSS.

He's far more than that. Graham Booker (gbooker here on the HandBrake forum) is responsible for a52codec, now affiliated with the Perian project. Without this all important piece of software, QuickTime wouldn't be able to decode AC3, and hacked AppleTVs wouldn't be able to do AC3 pass-thru. IMO, he's one of the most important people in the Mac audio/video dev scene.

(I keep gbooker's blog in my news feeds, and when I read that post last May, bgannin's lambast ( http://www.infinitenexus.com/blog/?p=61 ) occurred to me, too, rhester. In particular the parts where he said he was speaking "on behalf" of the Adium and Growl teams, and the bit at the beginning when he said: "Never attempt to speak for an entire movement, it tends to come back quickly.")

That thread (http://handbrake.m0k.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=501) ended up in ponies and should probably be moved here. Maybe it's time to unlock it.

I have no objection to it being moved however re-opening it is just going to start another argument that really isn't needed.

Err...it's in Ponies because it was a request thread. Why would it belong anywhere else?

And god no, don't unlock it.
