How to convert a video from 25f/s to 30f/s?

Post by mikejk »

I have to work on a Final Cut Pro project which is a musical video clip. I have received many video from several people (who have recorded their performance at home). Some are in 25f/s other ones are in 30f/s.
When I try to mix them, the sound from some is out of tune and the de-synchronized with the main soundtrack made in a studio.
How to fix it?

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0): 1.3.3

Operating system and version Mac OS Catilina

You can, but it's going to be via frame duplication in HB, and make the video output stuttery. May be OK if there's not a lot of motion, but it's not going to be good.

With other apps you could telecine it, but HB doesn't support that.

The go-to application for what you want to do is called Twixtor, and yes, it's pricey.

The problem with conventional encoders and editors is that your frame rates are not exact multiples of each other, so dupes, drops, blurring, and stuttery motion are the only result, as @mduell has described. Matching the audio tracks is another matter entirely.

One option for you is Davinci Resolve, a free nonlinear editor that now features optical flow processing. If you're not already adept, unfortunately you will find the learning curve rather steep, but it's worth it.
