Handbrake keeps adding an empty subtitle track??

Whatever I do, Handbrake adds and empty subtitle track to any file I rip, convert, etc...
I'll delete any and all subtitle tracks from the Subtitle tab, click 'Clear' in the Subtitle tab, change the selection behavior to 'None', uncheck 'Add Foreign Audio Scan', set 'Burn-In Behaviour' to 'None',... It doesn't seem to matter, Handbrake will always add an empty subtitle track to any file, even when I rip some music DVD that doesn't even have subtitles to begin with.

How on earth do I rip/convert files without adding this useless empty subtitle track to it?? What am I missing?

HandBrake version 1.3.3, but also happens in previous versions

That's the chapter track. If your player can't handle it properly, disable chapters.

Oh I see. Is there no way to keep chapter markers without adding this track? It's utterly redundant and uselessly clutters the subtitle list for files that I do want subtitles on. Or is there at the very least not some way to rename it so it doesn't show as "Track 1 - [English]" (which is just very non-descript and confusing, especially on files that I do want to add an English subtitle track to)?

It's a non-standard feature, since MP4 doesn't really define "chapter track" in the standard. Not all players recognize it as such, which is why you see it.

If you use MKV as your output format, that has a gen-you-whine chapter track type.

If you want it to be "invisible", but still present for players that are smarter, you can create an empty subtitle track to put in front of it. With DVD sources, you can pick a subtitle track and select "forced only", and you'll get the empty track.

Oh, wait -- DVD subtitle tracks is another non-standard feature for MP4 files; if a player is smart enough to recognize those, it SHOULD be smart enough to recognize the chapter track...

The player should be smart enough to know that's a chapter track and not to show it in the subtitles list. If not, report it as a bug or feature enhancements.

I use VLC player and even though it does recognize the chapter markers, it also shows it as a subtitle track for whatever reason. Thanks for clarifying Ritsuka and Woodstock!!

Never had that issue with VLC, FWIW. What version of VLC are you using?

I'm using v3.0.11, should be the latest version as far as I'm aware, but I've been having this issue with previous versions as well.
