Neither GUI or CLI work now ...

Post by Cristofayre »

Description of problem or question:
Whilst the GUI version WAS working - today I tried the CLI version - and now neither platform work!

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

Source a Mp4 video file, remove the foreign scan from subtitle section, select ssa file. Set the output folder and name mp4, select encode

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):
1.3.3 (2020061300

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):
Windows10

I thought it might be because I had the preset on 1080p when a 720p file. That made no difference. I checked the SSA had PlayResX and PlayResY set correctly - yes.

My graphics card reported no errors (surely it doesn't rely on that as different people use different graphic cards) Also seems strange that it's trying to read a DVD library when working with mp4. And - unless the src is embedded within the app or HandbrakeCLI.exe, I have no 'src/libluray...' on my Windows machine

Could not open the SSA subtitle file 'D:\home\cristofa\video_subs\short_vid\aff_brand\aff.ass'

Failure to initialise thread 'SSA Subtitle Decoder'
Is that path valid? If it isn't, that's where your problem is.

Re: Neither GUI or CLI work now ...

This one was a "schoolboy error" The path WAS valid ... but I'd removed the [Script Info] part from the top of the ASS file.

It now works in GUI version. However, the exact same video, exact same ASS file - all together in the same folder as "HandbrakeCLI.exe" results in "no title found"

I did read somewhere that the CLI version needs "previews" before it will run, so will try that later. (Whereas the GUI version will 'stat' the video file, the CLI won't even do that initial stage!)

There is a saying "Can't see the wood for the trees". If I'd seen that line re "Could not open the SSA ..." might have saved a bit of time!

This is the CLI I'm using:
HandBrakeCLI.exe -i "D:\home\cristofa\video_subs\short_vid\aff_brand\short_video_blackend.mp4" -N --ssa-burn "D:\home\cristofa\video_subs\short_vid\aff_brand\aff.ass" -o "D:\home\cristofa\video_subs\short_vid\aff_brand\test.mp4" As I say, can't even stat the video.

CLI writes the log to stderr, FWIW. Since it won't start there won't be much output anyway, but we still need to see it.

Just to clarify, when posting the HB log, do I re-edit the intitial post at the top, on post it in the "comment" section as per this reply. (In UK, it's currently 1:30 = lunchtime !! Will post again after about 3:00)

To paraphrase at present, it tells me it can't open DVD, then gets to part where trying a stream, tells me it cannot stat, tells me title(0) cannot be found, and then tells me no titles available.

As say: Will post full log this afternoon.

Or at least, it creates the videos even if it doesn't add the subtitle file in the last 10 seconds ... but at we're getting there!

As stated above, it is creating the video, but the subtitle track is not being added. I have enclosed the log below. (I don't know much about this program, but I'm wondering if subgtitleList[] (array?) should contain the filename of the ass file. (I'm probably missing a flag or some such (-s, -F, -N ???) ... HandBrakeCLI.exe -i ShortVidBlackend.mp4 --ssa-burn aff.ass -o test.mp4 (-s, -F, -N ???)

Thanks to "rolin_eng" and "rodeo" for giving me the correct path. Sorry for the late reply, been trying to get Powershell to work with FFMPEG with similar "flag" / path problems. (I have two parts; one is somthing affilates can download to create a personalised video - which is what I am using HandbrakeCLI for - and the main app program) ** I wish HB extracted audio from video, I could then switch to HB-CLI completely
