Upgraded my 2013 MacPro from 6 core to 12core (Xeon E5-2697 v2, 2.7ghz). Just for fun, was transcoding Guardians of the Galaxy UHD backup.
RF20, Very Slow, HEVC 10bit from 4k to 4k.
6 Core - 6 days
12 core - 4 days
12 core but Placebo setting - 10 days

Re: 2013 MacPro HEVC
It's in the name "Very Slow"
Probably cost more to encode it (electricity cost), than it store the raw hevc stream from the disc.

Re: 2013 MacPro HEVC
I did some rough math a while ago that it would cost about $1 per day to run your computer full throttle.
So your settings will cost you $4-$10, HDD space will probably cost you $2 per UHD rip.
Obviously these are just estimates.

Re: 2013 MacPro HEVC
I have plenty of storage space (160TB raid). My issue is that unlike my other raw UHD rips, I cannot get this title to stream correctly on my Plex Server to my AppleTV. I've re-ripped it numerous times, and each time I have the same issue - it only playbacks at 6FPS on AppleTV, though the file plays fine on desktop VLC. I have the same issue w Apollo 11 UHD. The only solution I have found is to transcode, after which it works perfectly. Again, all my other titles work no problem, only these 2 I have to transcode. I am getting some space settings at RF20, from 60gb to 26gb, but that is a distant secondary benefit.
