Rendering as .mp4 with x264

Post by frank44 »

Hey everyone,

I want to render with x264, but I always get a .m4v file. The website I need to upload only accepts an .mp4 or .flv video.

Before I render, in the bottom 'Save as' field, can I just change the ending to .mp4 instead of .m4v? Will this video count as a mp4?

Thank you in advance !

To convert an M4V file to MP4, rename the file to have .mp4 as the file extension.

Handbrake won't help you on .flv.

Thank you. Should I do this after I've rendered the file with handbrake? or directly in Handbrake?

You can render mp4 in Handbrake OR change rendered file extension to mp4. It makes no difference.

The thing to know is that "MP4" and "M4V" are the same file format. The reason "M4V" is used is that older Apple programs/devices would not enable some MP4 features if the file extension was not M4V. Newer Apple devices do not care.

You can also tell handbrake to always use the MP4 file extension in Preferences.
