Software to objectively determine image quality
Ive done some google searches regarding ssim and vmaf and other video quality measurements but cannot find software that is easy to use or install, only command prompt things and stuff like this. I want a program that is free, and simple to use with a gui. I don't know anything about command lines or anything, I just want software that I can install, run, select source, select encode, and it will spit out a number. I don't know if that's asking too much but that's what I want. I want to compare bluray sources with my encodes in handbrake.
Re: Software to objectively determine image quality
If you use the appropriate tunes in x264 (SSIM or PSNR), I believe the respective stat is available in the encoding log.
Of course the encode looks worse (at the same size) than an encode tuned for actual peoples eyes rather than objective image quality metrics.

So i can run some tests using those tunes, make my decision, and then run the same settings minus the tune?

Yes, but your output will be using different settings.

But its not a that big of a deal if the same settings without the ssim is going to be better quality and/or a smaller file, right? I just want an objective number to refrence when i decide how to encode my stuff.

Your eyes are better than a number

Of course, but i would like an objective number to use as well, even if its not perfect.

Then do what mduell suggested.

Here: Released by a friend of mine. SSIM, RMSE, PSNR. Standalone. Free.

However, You need to be VERY careful of the temporal one-frame offset in x264, others.
