1080P 25Hz or 1080i 50Hz support

Post by Robert_M »

Hello,
I have just downloaded HB 1.3.1 and cannot see any presets for 1080P 25 or 1080 50.
You do have SD PAL presets, I note.

Is there or will there be an option for these, please?

Thanks,
Robert

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):

HandBrake Activity Log ***required*** (see How-to get an activity log)

Code: Select all

Please replace this text with the contents of your log file between the two code tags - OR - provide a pastebin URL in place of these 3 lines.

The official presets use peak frame rate, meaning a maximum limit. You can use one of the 1080p30 presets with 25 fps sources and it will not change the frame rate. Likewise for 1080p60 and 50 fps sources.

HandBrake has PAL SD presets in part because of the resolution difference compared to NTSC SD. While the 480p30 presets won't alter 25 fps sources' frame rates, it would be disadvantageous to reduce the vertical height from 576 to 480 pixels.

Hopefully this helps explain things a bit. Cheers.

Thanks Bradley,

That will help, but it is just a little confusing knowing that a HD25 Hz project need the HD30Hz preset AND that it won't try to standards convert the video :)

It's the "up to 30p" preset, not the "30p" preset ;)
