Placebo is a weird name. Please change to BEST

Post by mastix01 »

As amazing as Handbrake is , sometimes it has not user friendly terminology. To call Placebo the best setting is just plain absurd. Change to Best and if you want put a disclaimer that this brings very low benefits as it increases a lot encoding time. But to call it Placebo ?¿?¿ Really.

"Placebo" is named after the class of drugs that are similar - they make you feel better, even though they do nothing, and the effect is all in your head.

"Best" would be an incorrect name.

We don't name the presets; the developers of the video encoders (libx264, libx265, etc.) do.

I've always thought "Placebo" was a perfect name and a nice hint that you're wasting your time uses it.

Exactly, it’s called Placebo for a reason.

The name was chosen to reflect the absurdity of excess. If taking forever makes you feel better, go right ahead, but remember to serve bon-bons and pink champagne.

If I was to rename the setting, it certainly wouldn't be to "Best."
I would call it "The Kitchen Sink," which is more apropos.
