Making MKV file smaller in less time

Post by John Wick »

Hi,

i already make an mkv file from Battleship , it is 45 GB large.
I tryed to make it smaller with the Matroska h.265 mkv 2160p 60 preset (change nothing) . After 24 hours they only have 25% of completing the file, i cancel it or is this true that it will take 4 days to completing it?

Can something told me the best settings for handbrake to make the mkv (45 GB) file smaller , maybe 15-20 GB in less time.

Handbrake version i use 1.3.0
Windows 10

Thank you very much .... :D

The time for encode an 1080p (22GB) to 8GB takes 1,5 hour.
So you say it "4 times longer" must be arround 6 hours but i take 4 days ?

how can i do it better ?

Try changing the encoder to x264, then change the speed as needed.

Those logs show the encode started at 13:34:18 and finished at 15:15:21, that's less than two hours.

I think he is saying the 4k presets are too slow compared to 1080 ones, this is probably due to them using x265.
