mP4 compression

Description of problem or question:

Took mP4 video from iMovie of 2.14GB to compress for email sending and compressed to TextEdit instead of mP4.


Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):




HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):

Handbrake 1.2.2


Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):

macOS 10.13


HandBrake Activity Log ***required*** (see How-to get an activity log)

It's an MP4 file, without an extension.

"[10:48:35] + /Users/gloriabell/Desktop/untitled folder/U CAN HEAL YOURSELF 2"

You dropped the extension off the destination. Just add it back in finder and you'll be good to go.

Sorry, I don't know what that means. I shared from iMovie to folder on desktop. And took out of folder for Handbrake. It shows the video in Handbrake.

You need to add .mp4 to the file name. Click once on the file to select it, press return to rename it, press the right arrow key to set the insertion point to the end, type .mp4, then press return to finish.

HandBrake typically adds .mp4 for you automatically but it looks like you accidentally removed it when you named the destination in HandBrake.

Since it's MacOS, wouldn't .m4v be a better choice?

Same thing in today's world. Old versions of iTunes and old firmware wouldn't recognize certain features without that extension, but that time has essentially passed.
