Converting a 3d movie to 2d

Post by nisaea »

Hello,

The search won't accept the term "3d", so I'll ask the question here: can we convert a 3d movie (in my case a side by side one) to a 2d movie in handbrae?

Thanks.

That will normally happen if you try to encode a "3D" file, because the "3D" portion of it will be ignored by handbrake.

Most likely, it will not be as "clean" as a separate 2D version, because there are compromises to the "base" portion of the video to allow the 3D to work.

Hello.

When I encode normally, I still get a side by side video.

You'd have to crop out whatever half you don't want assuming your disc doesn't have a 2D title on it as well.

3D Blu-rays don't do side-by-side, his source video is something else?

It's a 1080p movie, so it should be 3840 pixels wide, right? But in handbrake, I can't see that number. The presets seem to overwrite the original size.

1080p is 1920 wide. With side by side 3D, you will crop half of the picture to produce 2D, i.e. 960 wide. After cropping, you will also have to choose custom anamorphic mode and set the pixel aspect to 2:1.

That's it! I was missing the anamorphic part.

Thanks a lot!
