GPU Hardware Encoding

Post by ubigdummie »

Description of problem or question:
Is it possible to make Handbrake use more GPU resources than CPU for encoding? I have a Radeon R9 390 and it is only using 2%. Handbrake is using 40% of my CPU, which is an i7-5960X.

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):

1.2.2

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):

Windows 10 Pro - 1903

Your system does not support using hardware-accelerated encoding in its current configuration. You do not have the driver support for QSV.

That processor doesn't have integrated graphics, so no QSV hardware either. But the OP is trying to use AMD VCE.

@ubigdummie: is there no AMD VCE option in the video encoder drop-down?

His AMD GPU is a VCE 2.0 card, so no H.265 acceleration support either.

Your only option, is software. Given your encoding low resolution content, it'll bottleneck that CPU so better scaling isn't really feasible here.
