Deinterlaced VHS video - Colors 1 frame delay

Description of problem or question:

Hello, I have this issue that i found some time ago: When I'm trying to convert captured VHS video (.AVI YUV codec) to h264 codec with Yadiff bob deinterlace filter, the converted video has the colors off by 1 frame. (Visible at the screen shot below showing weapon equip animation) I'm not sure if i did something wrong with settings or if i found a bug.

I also have a question if it is possible to set the field order of deinterlace filter somehow instead of auto detection? Because i have a video sample that shows autodetection failing at bottom part of the video but is ok at the top part. And my captured videos are the other field order so if I turn autodetection off it is stuttering everywhere.

How was your video captured? That's where field order and field dominance issues are likely to show up. There are filters in VirtualDub and ffmpeg to clean up either issue before introducing the files to to Handbrake, which expects more-or-less compliant source.

This reminds me a lot of the program I used to use many years ago.... VideoRedo. That thing could clean up just about anything I threw at it in terms of frames and things like that.... not sure if it's something to help you here, but they do have a full featured demo usually that lasts 5 days or so.... I forget.... but it's great for also cleaning up HDTV streams from Tivo when using OTA antennas where it drops digital frames too.
