How to ignore JPG and other images in scan

Description of problem or question:
Just updated to the latest stable version of Handbrake (1.2.2). Background: I always keep my photos and videos together for editing in the same folder to organize things easier. To save disk space, I'll compress the original video files

In the latest version of Handbrake, when I scan a folder it includes all of the .jpg and .dng files in addition to the video. This is annoying as I have to go through a folder of 200+ items and manually figure out which ones are videos and which ones are photos and select them individually. In previous versions (upgraded from 1.1.1) it would ignore the image files and focus strictly on video. Either it did that, or it gave me the option to ignore video files that were less than a specified length.

Did the option to ignore files under a certain length get moved to a new area? Is there a way to specify file types to ignore during a scan?


Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):
Scan a folder with .mp4 and .jpg files and it'll include all of the files instead of just the videos.

Maybe make it a separate preference from minimum duration for DVD and BD since they appear to be different use cases.

Just make the list of "video extensions" user editable (using a reasonable default list) and everybody should be happy.

HandBrake doesn't skip or select files to scan based on filename extensions. It scans everything in the directory. If you have text files, they will also show up as titles (ffmpeg knows how to "decode" text files ). Valid video files often have unexpected filename extensions and people come up with new variations for essentially the same thing all the time (e.g. BD M2TS, AVCHD MTS & M2T, and broadcast TS files are all the same format; and DVD vob, HDDVD evo, mpg, mpeg, and ps are all the same format). I don't want to play whak-a-mole with the filename extension creators.

That may be but they do it on purpose and it sure is not standard that a user wants his text and jpeg files encoded to videos.
If an editable white list of movie extensions is something the development team does not want to implement and if it is for some reasons not possible or desired to reinstall the former behaviour (which as a I understood was a file size threshold - and again, making this limit editable via the menu would also solve the problem), maybe it would be an option to implement a black list (a list of file extensions which are excluded when scanning and encoding a directory).
BTW, scanning recursively all subfolders also would be a nice feature
