Video tab, "More Settings" box. Same format as was accepted by the text box in the advanced tab.

E.g.

Code: Select all

ref=5:direct=auto:subme=8:trellis=2:rc-lookahead=50

I hope you were not just copy / pasting in the format without adjusting it to what john showed, as what you've got was never supported and won't have been used. You'll have errors such as:

[19:37:56] x264 options: Bad argument cabac=1 / ref=9 / deblock=1
[19:37:56] x264 options: Unknown suboption 1
[19:37:56] x264 options: Unknown suboption 1 / analyse
[19:37:56] x264 options: Unknown suboption 0x113 / me
[19:37:56] x264 options: Unknown suboption 0.00 / mixed_ref
[19:37:56] x264 options: Unknown suboption 0.60

In the log files when it fails to parse a lot of the options.

OTOH if he's been doing that all along, it means he's happy with the very reasonable defaults.

Actually, I was just doing that. so the options I selected eventually gave me those settings, now I need to figure out what options gave me those settings. I am trying to get with the program. For years I have used MeGUI and Vdub to encode to .mp4, (mainly because I know how to add filters in VDUB such as degrain sharpen color, etc.... Then I went to Handbrake and I found it a little more difficult so I switched to Ripbot. I feel that is very easy to use, but I do not feel like there are enough options on it, at least options that don't require command lines. So now I am back to Handbrake and really want to get decent knowledge. I wish there was a way to convert/copy my vdscript into Handbrake or know how to make the same options in Handbrake. Other worries about switching back to Handbrake is hardcoding subtitles in a particular font, font size, and location. Lastly, I want to batch encode DVD series to mkv that automatically crops and interlace. I have had a few issues auto interlace and Cropping. I'm sure there are some answers around and will look into it, but I thought I'd share my giant step forward. :)

I'd suggest to look at the presets and tunes and figure out which comes closest to your past settings.

Or perhaps even better, pick the tune for your content, and the slowest preset you can tolerate the encoding speed of. It probably won't be the same as your past encodes, but it reflects the current best practices.
