Down sizing the video

Post by TomDe »

How can I downsize my video?:

After I have gone through the process it seems like the video MKV is still as large a file as the orignial so what do I have to do step by step to get it to replicate at a lower size so I can up load it to You Tube?

version is 1.1.2 (e.g., 1.0.0):

Operating system is Window 10 Firefox. (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):

Use the Web Vimeo/Youtube presets. Don't worry about the size, Youtube will recompress your file anyway.

File Size, thus upload and processing time, is a concern to many users, who may have slower connections, metered or prepaid plans, like 4G.

When rendering in Handbrake, be sure "Web Optimized" is checked, and set your RF a couple of points higher. The processed video, as Woodstock suggests, really won't look any hworse following mangling by YouTube's servers.

You have compressed your video from 342 kbps to 140 kbps.

You have compressed your audio from 196 kbps to 160 kbps.

At this point you are compressing an already compressed video and may not be able to get much better results.

You could drop your audio bitrate to save more space.

Irrelevant for YouTube uploads.

Actually IIRC youtube will start encoding chunks right away if the index is at the start.

YouTube will start processing upon receiving the first packet if the atom is at the beginning. If not, it will wait until after the final packet is received before beginning processing. I tested this again, and for me, 40% faster upload-to-airtime is relevant.
