What are the best setting to convert my DVD's to an MP4's?
The size of the file is no issue. I just want the closest to DVD picture aspect ratio and resolution and sound quality including 5.1.
I'm using Handbrake version 0.10.5.0 on a Windows 64 bit PC running the latest Windows OS.

First, start with a current version of handbrake, then use the "Super HQ 480p30 Surround" preset.

Thanks. Advice heeded.

The updated Handbrake isn't working with my DVD's now. Copywrite issue.

As mentioned numerous times over numerous days/weeks/months/years, HandBrake doesn't remove 'copyright' issues. Handbrake is a transcoder, not a ripper.

What video.baba said.
You probably had a third-party decryption library set up for your 0.10.5 install. While you can set that up for the current version by re-installing the 3rd party library, it is not a supported configuration for handbrake. Too many things break it, such as applying an operating system update. And it ONLY removes CSS encryption and region coding; other forms of copy protection are not touched.
Using an actual ripping tool is the recommended way - tools like MakeMKV, AnyDVD, and others work to keep up with the copy protection "game", because that's what they do. These tools also work with other encrypted sources, not just DVDs.

I tried copying the dvdcss ext. into the updated software and it didn't work like it did with the older version of Handbrake.

Because its not supported.
Re: Best settings for top quality DVD - MP4 conversions
It can be done, but it's really for advanced users only, and doesn't work with all disks anyway.
Use a tool intended for ripping, like MakeMKV.

Re: Best settings for top quality DVD - MP4 conversions
Went back to the old version (0.10.5.0) and added the extension.
Works just fine now.
AC3
640 bitrate
5.1
Creates about a 1.25-1.75 gig. file, give or take depending on the movie and looks and sounds good on the TV and surround system.
I'll look into MakeMKV also.
Thanks all.
