I have a Dish vip221k that's using an external hard drive for DVR.
Can Handbrake convert these files? Is this as simple as plugging external drive into computer?
Thanks

Re: Dish external hard drive
Why not just try it?
I, for one, do not have similar equipment so have no idea.

Re: Dish external hard drive
The only problem with trying it is I'd have to unplug the drive which would restart the dish receiver. I'm willing to try it but wanted to see if anyone had some first-hand experience first.
Re: Dish external hard drive
Then your question would probably best asked in the Devices forum, where Dish owners running all operating systems will see it.

Re: Dish external hard drive
zamboknee, reports on the net indicate that the content on your external HD connected to your Dish PVR is encrypted. You won't have any luck trying to do anything at all with it. This is apparently how Dish was able to provide the USB drive without running afoul of HDCP and copyright requirements.

I'm wondering if, by now, there is a hack/workaround yet.Jayster1 wrote:zamboknee, reports on the net indicate that the content on your external HD connected to your Dish PVR is encrypted. Re: Dish external hard drive
Not with handbrake, since it doesn't deal with encryption.
